What I don't get is why these groups can't see guns as a tool and a very effective tool in certain situations to defend your child. Hell they even state in their letter that their Amber Watch System "was built to be used as a weapon against child predators". And it can be very effective in the right circumstances as well. But in other circumstances it is not very effective. A guy who grabs your kid and takes them out to the middle of nowhere is gonna be very hard to find no matter how much of an amber alert is raised.

Now I don't see this group coming right out and saying "Guns are bad" but I do find this video to be at least inane. What message are they trying to get across? I am not the most creative guy but I think I could come up with a better video than this to get the point across that they are serious about protecting the kids without shooting two AK 47s up in the air.

I think it speaks great things that they see images of "Moms" shooting RFBs as motivational, a way to engender help to their cause. I don't think their message was anti gun just anti kidnapping.

Now it's up to US to get into the middle American mindset and say "hey you know the cool ad with the AK toting moms? THINK about that. No, really.

I know a couple single middle class American moms who are part of the metro-chic "I'm a pacifist" scene. W/one or two I've very carefully said "And, since we agree there are bad people, what if one of them approached (insert daughters name)"? You have to be sensitive about how you approach the topic and so far I only get cognitive dissonance with one of them. But... we're moving a mindset here... Boyd K

I suppose if you're dealing with an awful lot of kidnappers at once then an RPD is a logical choice, but then dragging around 15 pounds of LMG would get pretty old otherwise.

As for the rest of that spot, oy. As soon as kidnappers start consistently turning up with more holes than they were born with, kidnapping stops happening. Ditto pretty well any other activity you'd care to consider.

I stand corrected. AmberWatch Alert is a private mouthpiece organization cleverly using recognizable nomenclature to attract attention to their blatantly biased message. Judging from their website, the anti-gun message is their sole purpose.

*sigh* Like lambs to the slaughter.

Anyway, I take back the part about Amber Alert rotting. My malice was misplaced.

I never gave any consideration that Amber Alert was an organization. I thought it was a practice of participating municipalities to publish information for recently abducted children/lost elderly.

Never knew it was something that could be polarized on an issue.

Now I know better. Amber Alert can rot.

Jake nailed it. Exactly what, per se, then is the alternative to having a gun? What do they propose? Is simply having Amber Alert available an acceptable substitute for a preventive measure? Are they actually encouraging letting someone run off with your kids so Amber Alert can swoop in to the rescue after your child is kidnapped? WTF?

Kinda hypocritical for an organization who wants help from strangers to protect their kids to REJECT help from strangers who are willing to teach them how to use tools that might protect the kids from being stolen in the first place, don't you think? But now that I think of it, if Armed Parents used their guns in the first place, then maybe there would not be a need for Amber Alert, thus depriving another useless "charity" from using money to feed their bloated Executive Committees six-figure salaries w/o actually putting an end to the problem they are trying to "help put an end to".

Once you winnow it down, it looks like bona fide child abduction is on the order of several hundred "abducted by stangers" per year, and several thousand "abducted by non custodial parent" a year.

Like all domestic disputes, you have to consider that some percentage of the complaints will be lodged to obtain real or perceived legal advantage, and may not reflect actual circumstances.

As an aside, I do like that bullpup style shotgun. That would be a good house gun - though semi-auto would probably be better than a pump.

That was wrong in so many ways. Understandable at the core, i.e. "don't let kids be kidnapped or victimized even if you have to shoot the perps". But, having guns go off towards the camera; shooting from the hip, unaimed (and therefore probably missing the intended target); shooting up in the air (every bullet comes down somewhere). Wrong, wrong, wrong.
